Best things to do in Seixal

Madeira is a small island in the Atlantic Ocean, part of Portugal. It's known for its amazing views and hiking trails. There are two great hiking trails on Madeira: "PR13 - Vereda do Fanal" and "Ruinas de São Jorge". The first one is located in the center of Madeira, close to the town of Seixal. The second one is located in the north part of Madeira, close to Santana.

The Ruinas de São Jorge hike is very challenging but rewards you with amazing views. The PR13 - Vereda do Fanal trail leads you through a mystic forest with an unbelievable atmosphere.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for this trip?

There are some things that you can do in preparation for this hike. Wear comfortable shoes or boots, carry food and water (or buy some on the way). Make sure you know how to use your map and compass before starting the hike. Some hikers spoil their trip by underestimating these things - make sure not to make the same mistakes. You should also bring a backpack with some basic first aid supplies like antiseptic wipes, bandages, tweezers, etc. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

You can see exact GPS data for this and other hikes on the website "Madeira Hiking"

Some facts: - The starting point of the PR13 - Vereda do Fanal trail is located at 38°21′46.8″N 16°53′31.

Is Madeira a budget destination or higher priced?

Madeira is a bit of both. The hotels, restaurants, and other tourist facilities are definitely more expensive than on the mainland of Portugal, but you can find some cheaper options if you look around. The island is also very beautiful, so it's worth paying a bit more for a great location. Some people think that the prices are too high, but in my opinion it's worth it.

The PR13 - Vereda do Fanal

The PR13 - Vereda do Fanal is one of the most beautiful hikes on Madeira. It's located near Seixal town in the center of Madeira. The starting point for this hike is Ribeiro Frio. This hike is about 8 kilometers long. The trail leads you to the "Fanal" lookout point, which offers beautiful views over Ribeiro Frio and the valley it lies in.

The hike continues up to Morro Negro, a mountain with a height of 1164 meters above sea level. On your way up there are three viewing points with stunning views over the island.

Is Madeira good for a Couple Trip?

Although Madeira might be a bit more expensive than other European destinations, it is an amazing place for a couple trip. One of the best things about the island is that it offers something for everyone: amazing views and hikes, relaxation and sunbathing, great food, and much more. It's not hard to find something you'll love in Madeira, either.

The best time to travel to the island is from April through November when the climate is warm and pleasant. You can come here any time of year (although temperatures will be higher during summer), but if you plan on hiking or exploring mountains I recommend coming in September.

Where to stay in Seixal?

We stayed at an amazing accommodation near Seixal in São Vicente. The Casa Da Piedade is just perfect and has a wonderful host. The garden and pool are great - especially after a long hike. They also offer the best breakfast we had on Madeira.
