Grand Canyon of PA

I was craving for a day trip to mountains, so I browsed over the Internet and came across this beautiful place called the Pine Creek Gorge which is in our state of Pennsylvania and only few hours away from our place👍. Therefore, we decided to go for it. Pine Creek Gorge which is located in north-central Pennsylvania and nestled in Tioga State Forest is sometimes referred to as the Grand Canyon of PA. It is also one of the natural wonders of Pennsylvania😊.The gorge is formed by the Pine Creek tributary that runs through the Allegheny Mountains. The Canyon starts from the Ansonia which is located near a town of Wellsboro, a camping site used by Native Americans for hunting and stretches through the south. It is said that Native Americans used to travel through the gorge to reach Ansonia. It feels so amazing to explore the state in which we live.

Each park offers a great views of the canyon, but as we were there on a day trip, we covered only Colton Point State Park and Leonard Harrison State Park and it was amazing😍. We started our journey at 8 a.m and first we headed to the Leonard Harrison State Park. It is nestled on the east rim of the canyon and Colton point is exactly on the other side of the canyon. You will get the map of the park at the visitor centre👍. As soon as you enter the park, you will come across this stunning overlook from where you can get an exceptional views of the canyon. It is good that you don’t have to walk much to reach the overlook. We clicked a ton of pictures and also soaked in the views of the canyon. There is this famous turkey path trail in the park, but we didn’t get a chance to hike on that as it was closed at that time. We sat on one of the many benches that park has to offer and had some sandwiches for lunch which we carried from home☺️. They have a parking area and it’s completely free.

Later on, we headed to the Colton Point State Park which took us around 30 mins to reach👍. It is located on the west rim of the Pine Creek Gorge and offers you some of the breathtaking views of the canyon from completely other side of the Leonard Harrison Park. There is this viewing point as soon as you enter the park which gives you stunning views and we clicked a ton of pictures from there. If you want to get the better picture of the Canyon, I recommend you to visit both the parks. Apart from sightseeing, both parks has to offer number of trails if you’re interested. Last but not the least, the route which took us to the Gorge was scenic and fun to drive😍.

On our way back home, we stopped at this beautiful and quaint town named Wellsboro. It is referred to as the home of PA Grand Canyon. This gas-light lined streets town has array of shops for shopping, restaurants and cute cafes, art galleries and so much more❤️. We ended our trip on a sweet note by stopping  at this Ice cream and chocolate shop called The Main Street Creamery and their mango ice cream was delicious🥰. Hoping to visit again soon. Unfortunately, I don’t have pictures of the town.
