However, we would like to start with the packing list 🙂 Since we live in Germany, we have tested these gadgets several times ourselves and can recommend them to you without hesitation 🙂

Regardless of your next destination, we also have some general information and tips for you in this article:

Smart Travel Planning – 5 Tips to Save Money on your next Trip

19 Travel Gadgets you need on your Germany Packing List!

Lowa Renegade GTX Mid Hiking Boot

When you travel to Germany, be sure to also take some time to hike through the beautiful forests. Germany’s nature is absolutely gorgeous. There are also many lakes and mountains that you can explore. To make sure you don’t get any problems on a longer hike, we recommend you to put a good pair of hiking shoes on your Germany packing list. We ourselves have been using these shoes from Lowa for years.

Trekking Poles

You can prepare even better if you also pack a set of trekking poles. We would not have thought it ourselves, but there are very many differences when it comes to trekking poles (e.g. material or handles). After some research, we came across these trekking poles and can’t put our excitement into words. Not only are you faster at your destination, but we also felt much fitter.

GoGirl

GoGirl

Now here is a real insider’s tip for all women. As already mentioned, Germany’s nature is amazing. Unfortunately, women have a big disadvantage compared to men when you need to go to the toilet. GoGirl solves this problem in a revolutionary way! So women can also finally relieve themselves quickly and easily in nature 😊

Softshell Jacket

Now we have reached the last clothing item on this Germany packing list – a softshell jacket! Softshell is a great material that is not only water repellent and windproof but also keeps you nice and warm without restricting your freedom of movement. Here are our two jackets linked 😊

Water Filter Bottle

When you’re out and about all day, it’s easy to forget to drink enough. That’s why we recommend you always have a water bottle with you. The WATER TO GO bottle with filter is something very special. With the integrated filter, you can turn almost any water into drinking water in seconds. The filter removes bacteria, so you can quickly refill your water supply at the nearest river, for example.

Backpack

Ultra Lightweight Packable Backpack

So you can store your water bottle and other things properly, you also need a backpack. This ultra-light and foldable daypack is perfect for all your travels. It fits in almost any handbag and is surprisingly robust and comfortable when unfolded. Perfect for hiking or any other day trip and therefore definitely recommended for your Germany packing list.

Unibersal Travel Adapter

Depending on where you are traveling from, your charging cables might not fit into the sockets in Germany. That’s why we always have this universal travel adapter with us on all our trips. It also has multiple USB ports so you can charge multiple devices from one outlet. Therefore, it should not only be on your Germany packing list but on every trip 😊

Repel Windproof Umbrella

Repel Windproof Umbrella

Actually, we always say that you do not travel to countries where it is raining and therefore do not need an umbrella 😛 But in Germany, especially this year, it is surprising how unpredictable the weather is. So of course we’re keeping our fingers crossed that you won’t need it 😊 But just in case, this travel umbrella is definitely not a bad idea for your Germany packing list.

Covid-19 Travel Advisory – Top Google Questions Answered

Refillable Bottles with Hook (e.g. for hand sanitizer)

Are you still looking for ways to save some space and weight in your luggage? Then these small refillable travel bottles are perfect for you! They are also great to fill with some disinfectant and attach it to your backpack with the help of the hook. So you always have some disinfectant at hand 😊

Solar Charger

If our fingers crossing worked, this gadget is even better 😊 In order not to lose orientation while hiking and to navigate faster from sight to sight, you surely often use your smartphone. So it may quickly happen that the battery is empty. Therefore, we recommend that you always have a power bank with you. This solar powerbank can even recharge itself.

Insect Repelling Wrist Band

Insect Repelling Wrist Band

This gadget really surprised us. We honestly didn’t believe that it really works 😛 From our point of view, it doesn’t help as well as an insect repellent, but it is much more comfortable to wear since you don’t have to spray yourself every time. Test it on your next hike through the forests of Germany or in the evening with a cool drink outside and please feel free to write us your opinion in the comments 😊

bite away

If you do get caught by a mosquito, the bite away will help you in seconds. In Germany there are a lot of mosquitoes, so we strongly recommend you to put the bite away and/or other insect repellents on your Germany packing list. You have to hold the bite away for a few seconds on the affected area and the annoying itching stops.

canon eos 2000d

Canon EOS 2000D DSLR Camera with Wi-Fi

Germany has not only a breathtaking nature and great cities but is also known worldwide for its many castles. As you can see, there is a lot to see and photograph in Germany! If you want to take more professional pictures, we recommend the Canon EOS 2000D. We especially like (besides the excellent image quality) the integrated Wi-Fi. This way you can transfer your pictures to your smartphone during your trip and share them with your friends.

Lensball

To get even more unique vacation pictures you should definitely put this lensball on your Germany packing list. It’s also incredibly fun to shoot with and the results speak for themselves. The Lensball is not very light, but still highly recommended.

Camera Backpack

Camera Backpack

To have your camera and other equipment always with you, you need something where you can store everything properly. We found this camera backpack and are very happy with it. The layout inside is excellent. In addition, there is more space on top for other items you might need on the road (for example, something for a small picnic 😊).

Swimwear

Many people forget that Germany also has many islands and beaches! So you should also think about putting your swimwear on your Germany packing list. Besides the islands and beaches in the north of Germany, there are also many lakes all over the country. So Germany vacation doesn’t mean that you have to miss the sea and water 😛

Camping-Hammock-Double-Single-Image

Camping Hammock Double & Single

Thanks to the many forests, there are also many trees in Germany, with the help of which you can make almost anywhere a cozy place with this camping hammock. We live in Germany and often take it to the lake and relax 😊 Of course, Germany is also an excellent destination for camping.

Magnetic In Car Phone Holder

Finally, we have 2 gadgets that you should definitely take with you if you want to rent a car in Germany. Even without a specific destination, many tourists want a car just to drive once on the German “Autobahn” 😛 There is no speed limit on certain parts here. But be careful when driving! 😊 There are also so many destinations in Germany for which it is worth renting a car. With this magnetic in car phone holder, you can attach your smartphone in seconds in the car and navigate easily.

Dual-Port USB Car Charger Adapter

To ensure that your smartphone does not run out of battery while navigating, we also recommend this dual port USB car charger. It even has 2 USB ports, so you can also charge your camera or other electrical devices for the next stop. The roads in Germany are very good and you do not have to worry about anything. And with these two gadgets on your Germany packing list, you are guaranteed to arrive at your destination 😊 Now we wish you a lot of fun on your trip to Germany and look forward to feedback in the comments.

Bonus Tip: Travel Insurance

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has shown us how quickly something unexpected can happen. However, in order for you to worry as little as possible during your well-deserved vacation, we have fought our way through the insurance jungle for you and looked for a reliable partner. Thereby we have stumbled upon WorldNomads.com. Insurance is always a very sensitive topic and honestly, we would rather do without it and spend the money on vacation for other nice things. 6 Things you DO NOT need in Germany

Do you know the word “Konterbier”? There is an incredible number of excellent beers in Germany. Even a hangover in Germany is simply dealt with the remedy “Konterbier” 😛 So rather enjoy a cold beer after your arrival 😊

Charcoal tablets

In Germany, there is a wide range of food of excellent quality. The hygiene regulations for restaurants are also very strict. So you don’t have to worry about your stomach 😊 If you do get problems, there are pharmacies everywhere in Germany where you can get medicine quickly and cheaply.

German Phrasebook

Germans speak excellent English. Also, always remember, if you think they don’t understand you – they do 😛 If you don’t speak English, a few phrases in German or English are recommended.

A hairdryer

There are enough hairdryers everywhere in Germany 😛 So leave your travel hairdryer at home and save some space and weight in your luggage.

Too many credit cards

It’s hard to believe, but Germany is still one of the countries that are very reliant on cash. This also has to do with the slow progress of digitalization in Germany. So make sure you always have enough cash on you 😊

A full suitcase

There is an enormous amount of great stuff to buy in Germany. Whether it’s souvenirs for friends and family or some shopping for yourself. We definitely recommend you to leave enough space in your suitcase 😛

Spring in Germany (March – May)
20 Must-Have Germany Packing List Travel Gadgets For The Perfect Trip In 2021

Germany has a continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold, rainy, and sometimes very snowy winters. There are no extreme temperatures and seasonal variations, which is due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. On the other hand, it is always possible to have a rainy day during your trip to Germany, even though you are traveling in the summer. This is completely normal. However, we can promise you that Germany is an absolutely fantastic destination, no matter what time of year you want to travel there!

Let’s start with the lovely spring awakening, the change of the cold winter season into the warm summer season. This time is characterized by changing weather and mild temperatures around 20°C. The days are getting longer again and there are more hours of sunshine than in winter. From time to time, however, snow showers can still occur. Especially April is known for its so-called “April weather”, where the weather suddenly changes from warm sunny moments to hail, rain, and snow on some days. However, by May at the latest, temperatures settle at 15° to 25°C, and nature blossoms in fresh green. The trees and meadows bear colorful blossoms. It is one of the most beautiful seasons to discover the nature and sights of the country.

A big advantage of this time of year is the few tourists and therefore the comparably low prices. For all photographers, this is a real plus: fewer people walking in front of the lens, plus beautifully blooming flowers and trees. It’s best not to worry so much about the unpredictable weather. Just be flexible and plan for rain. There are many outdoor but also indoor activities, so no problem at all.

Which activities are most recommended in spring?

In spring you should check out the highlights of the country’s nature and landmarks. We present to you our top 3 attractions and landmarks of Germany.

3 Amazing landmarks & attractions you should not miss

Zugspitze

At 2,962 meters, the Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany and invites you to all kinds of sporting activities. In autumn and winter, a large ski area and an igloo village await you. You can even go sledding all year round. In spring and summer, we recommend you a glacier hike with breathtaking views, climbing routes, and beautiful sunrises. At the foot of the Zugspitze is also the turquoise Eibsee, which you should definitely visit. The panorama of the lake with the Zugspitze in the background is absolutely gorgeous!

Cologne Cathedral

Cologne Cathedral is one of the most impressive cathedrals in Germany and the landmark of the Rhine metropolis Cologne. The cathedral has room for more than 20,000 people and you have the opportunity to marvel at the impressive Gothic architecture from the outside as well as the inside every day. The beautiful stained glass windows and important works of art inside make the Cologne Cathedral a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A very special highlight is the shrine of the Magi, whose bones are housed in Cologne Cathedral. We recommend you take a Cologne Cathedral and Old Town Tour, which will give you lots more information about Cologne Cathedral and the beautiful Old Town. And just like it should be in Germany: at the end, you can enjoy a real traditional Cologne beer, the Kölsch.

Stasi Prison

The Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial was the prison for state security from 1961 until the fall of the Wall in 1990. The former prison of the GDR was absolutely secret at that time and could not be found on any city map. More than 11,000 people were imprisoned at this place because they were in the way of the communist dictatorship. A sinister place of the injustice system of the GDR, which you can still visit today. The special thing about it: the guided tours through the memorial are conducted by former inmates.

Summer in Germany (June – August)
castles germany

German summers are epic! Sunny days, blossoming trees, lush green meadows, food, and beer festivals. While it can get a bit chilly at night in June, temperatures rise to 25°C from mid-June onwards. The German high summer is in July and August and the thermometer shows 30° to 35°C during this season. Summer thunderstorms and showers are now not uncommon in the face of climate change.

Summer is an ideal time to travel for those who do not like the extremely hot temperatures of the Mediterranean countries. This time is perfect for hiking, camping, sightseeing, and beach vacations in the north of Germany.

Which activities are most recommended in summer?

Following the slogan “Everything is more beautiful when the sun is shining”, we recommend you to visit the many beautiful castles and palaces of Germany in summer. In the blooming nature, the castles are a real feast for the eyes and you can hike there very well. Moreover, the castles offer shaded and cool places when it is very sunny and warm.

3 Famous and beautiful castles in Germany

Heidelberg Castle

Heidelberg Castle is considered the most famous castle ruin in the world. It is located in the middle of green forests above the river Neckar in the city of Heidelberg. In the past, the Electors of the Palatinate resided there until the wars of the 17th century turned the pretty castle into a ruin. Today it is a popular retreat for romantics, poets, and lovers. You have a magnificent view of the city of Heidelberg and its pretty old buildings, the Neckar River and the Old Bridge. There are numerous guided tours where you can learn more about everyday life and court life at the castle as well as about the architecture.

Neuschwanstein Castle (Disney Castle)

There is really a lot to discover and admire in the region of Bavaria. One of them is the beautiful fairytale castle Neuschwanstein near Füssen. The imposing Disney castle, as which it is known due to its structural similarity, sits enthroned on a mountain surrounded by forests. Images of a ballroom, golden decorations, carriages, and royal couples à la Cinderella will quickly come to your mind. There are several hiking routes to the castle. We recommend that you take a look at the castle from the Marienbrücke.

Sigmaringen Castle

Between the Swabian Alb and Lake Constance is the former castle complex Sigmaringen Castle. The castle is located on an 855m high peak and reminds of Harry Potter’s magic school Hogwarts. In the past, the princes of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen ruled there. Today, you can learn a lot about the history of the medieval castle during a guided tour of the castle and see the magnificent residence halls with their unchanged furnishings, clocks, and paintings. The castle also has the largest private collection of weapons in Europe. In the immediate vicinity is the famous city of Stuttgart. Be sure to make a side trip there.

Autumn in Germany (September – November)
beer germany

When the temperatures slowly drop and the summer says farewell, it’s time for the golden autumn. While September still holds many beautiful and sunny days, the temperatures in October sometimes drop to 9°C, allowing you to make yourself comfortable in front of the fireplace with a cup of tea. There is (almost) nothing more beautiful than walking through the forests of Germany and enjoying the impressive colorful foliage of the deciduous trees. Enjoy the Indian summer in Saxon Switzerland and at Königssee, for example. A very special highlight in autumn is the Oktoberfest in Munich.

Which activities are most recommended in autumn?

Unfortunately, autumn in Germany is also characterized by uncomfortable drizzly weather, so it’s a good idea to plan some indoor activities like visiting a pub and brewery tours. After all, Germany is the land of beer.

Oktoberfest

O’zapft is! These are the words with which the Oktoberfest, the largest folk festival in the world, welcomes you when the mayor of Munich taps the first beer barrel. The Oktoberfest welcomes around six million visitors every year at Wiesn time. The folk festival lasts two weeks and starts as early as the end of September, so there’s a better chance of good weather. Look forward to fresh beer and pretzels. By the way: traditional costume is mandatory, you can either buy a dirndl or lederhosen in advance of your trip to the Oktoberfest or right there.

Winter in Germany (December – February)
cities germany

Winter is the coldest of the four seasons in Germany. Compared to other countries in the world, the German winter is rather mild, with average temperatures around 2°C. However, precipitation, wind, and fog often make the weather feel much colder. Sun and snow are more likely to be found at higher altitudes and in the mountains in winter. That’s why many Germans are drawn there for a winter vacation to go skiing, snowboarding, or sledding.

Since there is more rainfall in the so-called dark season and the days only count 8 to 11 hours, it is important that you dress properly. Depending on where you want to travel in Germany, a hat, gloves, and a winter or rain jacket should not be missing in your Germany packing list. But don’t worry: Germany has many nice cafes, restaurants and mulled wine stands where you can warm up in between.

Which activities are most recommended in winter?

For many visitors and locals, December marks the beginning of the most beautiful time of the year. Then it’s the time of the Christmas markets in Germany. Gingerbread, mulled wine, stollen, beautifully decorated lights in the streets and cities await you. Combine your winter city trip with a visit to the Christmas market.

Here are 3 amazing cities to visit

10 Interesting Facts about Germany!

Germany loves cars!

The Autobahnen without speed limits are known all over the world. But Germany is also the world leader in the production of cars. The VW Golf, for example, is one of the most sold cars worldwide. But also brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes or Porsche are internationally recognized.

The first printed book in the world was in German

Knowledge is power! Where would we be without letterpress printing, which Johannes Gutenberg developed in Mainz around 1440? It is unimaginable that important events or useful information would not be put down in writing and made available to a large number of people. The morning newspaper is just one of the many examples that would not be possible without letterpress printing.

The Christmas tree (Tannenbaum) is a German tradition

All over the world, families decorate their Christmas trees and have their own special rituals during the wonderful Christmas season. The Christmas tree itself is a tradition that has spread from Germany to the whole world. So maybe next Christmas sing the German Christmas song “Oh Tannenbaum” 😊

A prison break is not punished by a law in Germany

And the reasoning for this even sounds very logical! The need to be free is recognized as a human instinct in Germany. Of course, an escape in Germany is not simply accepted and rarely goes unpunished, because prisoners often break other laws during the escape (e.g. damage property or threaten people).

More than 800 million Currywurst are eaten every year

If you divide that by the 80 million inhabitants of Germany, it quickly becomes clear how much the Germans love Currywurst. So make sure to eat at least one Currywurst on your next trip to Germany 😛

Germany has already changed its capital 7 times!

This fact is known even by the fewest Germans. So pay attention and you will surely impress German people 😛 The capitals were: Aachen, Regensburg, Frankfurt am Main, Nuremberg, Berlin, Weimar and Bonn.

Germany is the 8th most visited country in the world!

We live in Germany and were really surprised about this fact. But you probably always do not recognize the beauty on your own doorstep 😛 After we are aware of this, we also have a different perception of Germany itself and have visited incredibly beautiful places. So we could at least gain something positive from the Corona Pandemic.

No city in the world has more canals than Berlin!

You read that right… it’s Berlin. Not Venice and also not Amsterdam. That also makes Berlin incredibly attractive for a sailing vacation 😊 Berlin also has more bridges than Venice, by the way.

German almost became the world language

This fact is actually a legend, but one that persists in Germany 😀 Many Germans believe that there was a vote on the world language in the USA at the time and that German only lost it by a narrow margin of one vote. But in fact there was a long discussion about translating important documents and laws into German as well. By the way, German is still the 3rd most taught language in the world.

There are 1,300 beer breweries in Germany

We now know that German beer is known and loved worldwide, even beyond the borders of Germany. Germany has not only the 2nd highest beer consumption in Europe (behind the Czech Republic) but also an incredible number of breweries. In those breweries over 5000 different types of beer are brewed. So in Germany, you certainly do not go home thirsty 😛
