This is a beautiful orphanage situated in Pinnawala village. This being one of the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. This not only serves as an orphanage but also serves as a nursery, captive breeding ground for all the wild Asian Elephants 🐘. The entire place is spread across 25 acres of land. This place was established by the Department of Wildlife conservation in 1975. The elephants range in Age from newborns to elderly, orphaned to Abandoned, and even those who got injured in the wild.
The orphanage is around one and half hour drive from Kandy which is around 44.5 km from Kandy. You can even visit the Pinnawala Orphanage from Colombo which takes around two and half hours from Colombo.
You get to see the large herds of captive elephants roaming around freely, bathing, cuddling, and wading each other passionately. They let you observe the animals closely. You can even get to watch them bathe and even get to feed them.
As you walk along with the orphanage we get to play with them, take amazing pictures with them. They tell us about how they take care of the elephants, feed them and take care in case they get hurt.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this place. It was just amazing and wonderful. Looking at them roaming around freely, rushing, and running around happily was just overwhelming. You can easily spend the entire day here.

This was one of the most memorable moments and memories of the Sri Lanka tour. On enquiry we got to know there are around 88 elephants 🐘 in here which is inclusive of cute baby elephants.
After the visit to this amazing place, we proceeded towards Colombo.
Colombo is the commercial capital city of Sri Lanka. And even the largest city by population. It is a city of contrast with both electric shiny hotels to beautiful red-tiled colonial-era buildings. One of the largest harbors in the world. Colombo’s important buildings include the Secretariat, the Town Hall, the Clock Tower, St. Lucia’s Cathedral, and the Galle Face Hotel. We did do a city tour of this beautiful place. The city is home to the majority of Sri Lanka’s corporate offices, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Got to see many historical, religious sites in Colombo which includes the Colombo National Museum, the Galle Face Green, Viharamahedevi Park, and many more places.
After an amazing city tour, we headed back to our hotels. This was the last day of our trip to Sri Lanka. The next day was our flight back home 🏡. We were back with various beautiful memories.
